About ProbaLab

A learning portal for probability and game math, based in Katowice.

"Probability" scares people it shouldn't — and that's exactly the itch ProbaLab was built to scratch. Game designers make decisions about randomness every single day: a crit chance here, a drop rate there. Most learned to feel their way through it instead of reasoning about it. Good news: the reasoning is learnable, and faster than you'd think, once someone shows you the picture before the proof.

§1What we do

We teach the math behind game systems — expected value, random number generation, drop rates, loot-table balancing and variance — not as abstract theory, but as the specific tools you reach for when a reward loop feels stingy, a rare item never shows up, or two systems with the same average somehow feel worlds apart. Every idea arrives with a visual, a worked example, and a small model you can open and tune yourself.

§2Who it's for

Designers who want to stop guessing. Developers who touch the systems and want to know what the numbers are actually doing. And curious players who've always wanted to peek at the machinery behind the fun. No maths background is assumed — if you can add and read a spreadsheet, you can follow along, and you'll be surprised how quickly it starts to click.

§3What we believe

That intuition beats memorised formulas, and that you build intuition by playing with numbers until they behave predictably. That clear teaching respects your time — short lessons, one idea each. And that this is craft knowledge for building fair, satisfying systems, kept firmly on the side of game design. ProbaLab is educational content about game systems; it has nothing to do with money riding on a result.

§4Where we are

We work from Katowice, in the south of Poland, and teach anyone with an internet connection. Say hello, ask a question, or tell us which system is giving you trouble — write to [email protected] or call +48 784 319 024. There's a real person on the other end who genuinely cares whether the math finally clicks for you.
